China superpower
I can't figure what Russia's advantages are in standing up for Iran.
In my opinion, the Cold War hasn't ended. Russia and US are still bitter enemies of each other.

My other opinion is that the "debt-fueled" USA is not a superpower anymore. That is why Russia has no reason to be scared of the US. Plus, it is Russia who controls the energy resources in the 21st century. It is really China who is relatively stable, controls the USA through trade and treasuries, and is now the world superpower. China can dump treasuries if they want to but they show mercy to the USA.

A lot of people think that if US falls, China will fall. It's only true to an extent. China exports around 21.4% to US but only imports 7.4% from US. Once US falls, it can export to other countries who used to import from US like Canada, Mexico and Japan. Because China imports so less from US relative to other countries like Japan (15.2%), its economy is more dependent on Japan than the US. Japan exports a lot to the US but if they accept China's exports then they will export to China as well. Japan and China have always been big trading partners of each other and there is no reason for them to not continue to do so if US falls. In the end, world growth will drop but will continue. Of course, I am excluding the fact that peak oil will occur.

A lot of people refer to GDP/capita to prove China is not a superpower. If that's the case then Luxembourg should be the world superpower since their GDP/capita is much higher than the US.

The fact is that China has a very large influence on the world especially through international trading. It is a big trading partner of so many Asian countries. On the other hand, the US' exports are consistently decreasing because its manufacturing base has been wiped out. Thus, its influence through international trading has been greatly reduced. Lastly, the US holds so much debt and the question is how can they be rich with so much debt in their hands. They won't be able to pay it back in centuries.

I would agree that China is only in the beginning stages of a superpower. Its only barrier before being a superior superpower is military and global cultural influence. But with a strong economy, it will eventually be able to support a more technologically advanced military. The US has the more advanced military but its economy is very unstable making military operations unstable as well. Culturally, China has a more unique culture than the US. In fact, the US' culture is basically just the merging of different cultures together. Hollywood is losing influence because its movies suck. China still does not have anything near as influential as Hollywood but because Mandarin is the most widely-spoken language in the world, it is only a matter of time.
